In addition to financial assistance, the Harischandra Yojana also offers a free ambulance service to transport deceased bodies. This service is particularly beneficial for families who may struggle to arrange transportation during a difficult time. By providing this additional support, the government aims to streamline the process of conducting last rites, allowing families to focus on their grief rather than logistical challenges.
Harischandra Yojana Odisha Overview
The main objective of the Harischandra Yojana Odisha is to alleviate the financial burden faced by families during a time of grief and mourning. In many cases, the costs associated with funerals can be overwhelming, particularly for those living in poverty. The Odisha government recognized this need and created a structured program to offer monetary support. Under this scheme, families residing in rural areas can receive ₹2,000, while families in urban areas are eligible for ₹3,000. This assistance aims to cover expenses related to funerals, which may include transportation, rituals, and other necessary arrangements.
Since its inception, the Harischandra Yojana Odisha has significantly impacted the lives of many families in Odisha. Reports indicate that the government has disbursed substantial funds under this scheme, benefiting over 1.68 crore individuals and providing approximately ₹32 crore in total assistance. This achievement highlights the effectiveness of the initiative in addressing the urgent needs of vulnerable communities.
